One-Day Symposium On Expanding the Frontiers of Ionospheric Research in Africa

Date: Thursday 20th November 2025
Time: 10:00 am prompt
Venue: Mountain Top University, Prayer City, Ibafo, Ogun State Nigeria

About the Symposium

In recent time, Nigeria and in general Africa has benefited from large number of assorted equipment for probing the atmosphere at different altitudes. This positive development has increased our knowledge of the ionosphere and even lower atmosphere over Africa. Availability of ground-observed data over Africa has also helped in the development of model using Machine learning and artificial intelligence tools. New infrastructure are also being developed at different locations in Africa. Capacity building programme and research clusters are being promoted over Africa. All of these efforts are cumulatively expanding the frontiers of ionospheric research in Africa.

This one-day symposium shall bring together scientists, graduate students, and post-docs who desire to network and share the latest information about the availability of resources and opportunities in the ionospheric research in Africa. Participants will also visit the operational equipment at the MTU Space and Geophysical Observatory which is under development.
